Why are people obsessed with passion?

i'm not saying everyone but, if you watch a show like maury for example, if they use the lie detector test to see if he or she cheated, maury would say something like, " did you kiss him/her passionately", wouldn't kissing another person be bad enough, why do they always have to use the word, " passion", just curious.
